Japanese Hair Straightning - From Curly Hair

to a sleek and straight style

This popular procedure has left many people in awe after years of struggling with uncontrollable curly hair. After this procedure hair is silky, shiny and smooth. The hair also looks very healthy.

Depending on the curl, frizz and length of your hair this straightening method can be anything between three to eight hours. It is quite expensive and may range from $500 to $1000; this is due to time, labor and of course the solutions used in the straightening process. As stated in the name this popular procedure originated in Japan. Why would Japanese people want to invent hair straightening technology - well apparently Japanese people have slightly wavy and kinky hair.

If you decide to straighten your hair permanently be sure to get referrals for great Salons. A consultation with the hairdresser is advised, ask for before and after pictures and don’t hesitate to get all your questions answered. If you have used relaxer on your hair this straightening method won’t work. A test strand will have to be done if you have had your hair permed or highlighted. Explain your exact hair history to the hairdresser. This procedure is not advised for African hair because the concentrated heat causes infinite breakage.

The procedure involves the following:

  • A thorough analysis of your hair type and texture will be done.

  • Your hair will be washed.

  • Protein will be applied; this is optional but highly recommended. Remember they will charge you extra for this, thus include this in your budget.

  • The first solution is applied. During this process the cystine bonds, which hold the curl and are responsible for the wave pattern are broken.

  • The first solution will be rinsed out.

  • The hairdresser will blow dry your hair to a certain extent.

  • With a thermal straightening iron, which has a bromide neutralizer, the cystine bonds are reshaped. The hair will be divided into small sections and at a temperature of 180 degrees your hair will be straightened.

  • A second solution is used to yet again reform the broken cystine bonds.

  • Your hair will be rinsed and a conditioner is applied.

  • Finally your hair will be blow-dried and styled.

You may not wash your hair for the next three days. The brilliant advantage is that humidity has no negative curling or frizzing effect, due to the porosity that is changed. Remember this straightening method is permanent on the treated hair. After 3 to 6 months you will have to have a touch up. The hair that grows out will still be curly thus you will have to go for a touch up. The cost involved is approximately the same as the first straightening. The touch up is more difficult than the initial treatment though.

Japanese hair Straightening is also named Thermal Reconditioning, but the hairdresser will know exactly what you want. If you choose to straighten your hair we hope you will achieve the desired results and that the information above has been useful.
