Long Hairstyles
How much time is spent every morning around the world on long hairstyles, washing, combing, drying, curling and applying various products? Surely, applying make-up doesn’t even take this long.
A lot of trendsetting celebrities have chosen long hair styles. They always look fabulous, but then again they employ a whole entourage of stylists and beauty make-up artists who are at their disposal 24/7. So we don’t have to feel bad at all.
My hair is long and blond, cliché you might think… well probably, but I choose to stick with this long hairstyle because it’s my signature look and it’s so versatile even though it's pretty labour intensive.
Our lives are dictated by ever increasing time constraints and stress is simply an unwanted by product. Sometimes it just isn’t possible to spend hours on our long hairstyles. Below are a couple of tips that will not only save you time but spare you quite a bit of effort in attaining beautiful manageable long hair styles.
External Factors
Avoid using too much heat. Let your hair dry naturally or dry it on your hairdryer’s coolest setting. Always apply a thermal heat protection product beforehand. Hair straightners should be used sparingly and rather a ceramic straightner than a metal one; the latter is too harsh on your hair.
Don’t wash your hair everyday - yes seriously, I know it sounds terrible but constant washing isn’t good for your hair. It may be difficult starting out, but after a while your glands won’t produce as much oil. If your hair looks a bit oily use some powder (e.g. baby powder) on the roots. The powder absorbs the oil and your hair will look great. If you develop a distinct ‘hair smell’, spray some deodorant or perfume on a brush and comb it through your hair. Blow dry your hair the first day after washing, then the second day if your hair is a bit unmanageable then updos are great, make a low bun with a stylish zigzag parting or something similar. Long hairstyles are fantastic in the fact that they enable you to have a wide variety of options.
Split ends - the only proven solution to get rid of them is to trim the edges. A protein based shampoo or conditioner temporarily close split ends. Protein is brown, thus the darker the shampoo the higher the concentration of Protein therein. Mayonnaise and Olive oil can also be utilised as masks in the fight against split ends, but don’t use them on the roots; rather focus on the dry and less oily parts of your hair. Split ends are detrimental to long hairdos.
Be gentle with your hair; comb your hair when dry before washing it, this will leave you with fewer tangles after washing. When your hair is wet don’t apply unnecessary tension, your hair won't break, but it will stretch the hair making it fragile. Comb your hair with a wide comb brush when wet. Sleep on a satin pillow and tie your hair in a loose manner; this will reduce tension on your hair while sleeping.
Try to deep condition your hair once a month after using a clarifying shampoo to remove any residue. Rinse your hair well after washing to avoid flat hair, flat hair is mainly caused by any left over residual from the shampoo or other hair products.
After you have painstakingly prepared your hair – do not even dream of going into a steamed bathroom ; this will flatten your hair instantaneously and ruin you’re your hard work.
When applying styling products make sure your hair is not too wet, this will ensure that the products don’t become diluted and will render much better results.
